Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair PowerFoil Mask - Lip Treatment
11:36 PM
First of all, happy Easter! I hope you all had/are having a nice time with your family and precious ones!
I have 2 Estée Lauder products I've tried recently, that I really like and I wanted to share my thoughts with you ;)
Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Concentrated Recovery PowerFoil Mask
With the launch of the new PowerFoil Mask, Estée Lauder brings a new star in the Advanced Night Repair (ANR) family.
You probably all know Estée Lauder's Advanced Night Repair serum because it's a cult. It's packed with antioxidants to protect the skin and contains a good mix of skin beneficial ingredients.
WHAT ESTEE LAUDER CLAIMS IT DOES:
Estée Lauder says this mask is an innovative mask with exclusive repair technology.
"Starting tonight, reset the look of your skin after the visible assaults of modern life with this innovative weekly treatment mask. Instantly, skin looks fresher, renewed.
Our Worldwide First: PowerFoil. High-performance foil-backed sheet mask creates a protective barrier, allowing our potent technologies to penetrate fast and deep within skin's surface and helping to lock in moisture.
2X Hyaluronic Acid. Each treatment delivers a surge of liquid revitalization, immersing skin in a double dose of Advanced Night Repair Serum's powerful moisture magnet. Also includes our proven ChronoluxCB™ technologies. Experience an ultimate infusion of youthful moisture."
Ideal for:
- Firming
- Moisturizing the skin
- Brightening and evening skintone
PACKAGING/MASK:
The mask consists of 2 separate pieces, one for the top and one for bottom half of the face.
The mask looks dry on the picture because I took it a few days after using it (yes, I know...) |
The inner layer of the mask is soaked with the serum that consitutes the sheet mask. It contains ingredients that boost skin’s natural repair mechanism (see below).
The outside foil creates a protective layer to seal and help the serum penetrates the skin. This PowerFoil technology is supposed to enhance penetration by 25 when compared to a traditional cotton sheet mask.
The mask is generous in essence. It feels really moist when you take it out of the pouch but it's not dripping all over.
HOW TO USE IT:
Apply on clean skin, once a week at night. Remove mask, carefully unfold and apply bottom half first, then top half. Leave on for 10 minutes, then remove mask and gently massage in any remaining liquid.
I left the mask on my face for more than 10 minutes. You can actually leave it as long as the mask is still wet and remove it when it starts drying.
INGREDIENT LIST:
Water, Methyl Gluceth-20 (humectant), PEG-75 (humectant, emulsifier, solvent), Butylene Glycol (slip agent, solvent), Bis-PEG 18 Methyl Ethyl Dimethyl Silane (slip agent, emollient), Propanediol (sovlent), Glycereth-26 (surfactant), Cladosiphon Okamuranus Extract (antioxidant, anti-irritant, prevention/treatment of photoaging), Garcinia Mangostana Peel Extract (antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial), Magnolia Officinalis Bark Extract (antioxidant, anti-inflammatory), Silybum Marianum (Lady’s thistle) Extract (antioxidant), Echinacea Purpurea (coneflower) Extract (anti-irritant), Limonium Vulgare Flower/Leaf/Stem Extract (skin conditioning), Lactobacillus Ferment (anti-inflammatory), Betula Alba (Birch) Extract (antioxidant), Hydrolyzed Algin (emollient, thickener, antioxiant), Acetyl Didepetide-1 Cetyl Ester (anti-irritant), Coffea Arabica (coffee) Seed Extract (antioxidant), Hydrolyzed Rice Extract (skin conditioning), Poria Cocos Sclerotium Extract (anti-inflammatory), Algae Extract (anti-inflammatory, antioxidant), Squalane (repairing ingredient), Yeast Extract/Faex (skin conditioning), Caffeine (antioxidant), PEG-8 Glyceryl Isostearate (surfactant), Glycerin (humectant), Artemia Extract (antioxidant), Lecithin (emollient), Glycine (skin repairing), Anthemis Nobilis (Chamomile) (anti-irritant, antioxidant, antibacterial), Sodium Hyaluronate (increase skin moisture, strenghten skin barrier), Oleth-3 Phosphate (surfactant), Caprylyl Glycol (preservative), Tocopheryl Acetate (vitamin E acetate, antioxidant), Carbomer (thickener, emulsifier), Dextrin (film-forming), Sodium Hydroxide (pH adjuster), Xanthan Gum (thickener), Laureth-3 (surfactant), Hydroxyethylcellulose (thickener), Trisodium EDTA (chelating agent), Phenoxyethanol (preservative), <ILN41610>
The first ingredients are composed of a lot of humectants and ingredients that help modify the texture of the final prepration. Some of them can also help deliver other ingredients deeper into skin, such as PEG-75, butylene glycol, and propanediol. The rest of the ingredients mainly have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
THOUGHTS:
So to tell you the truth, I'm very impressed with this sheet mask. First, it's innovative. It's the first time I've seen a foil-backed sheet mask and I think it's very clever. The aluminium foil creates a protective barrier, allowing the essence of the mask to penetrate fast and deep within skin's surface and helping to lock in moisture!
If you're interested in this but don't have too much money to spend, I've heard on Get It Beauty (Korean TV beauty show) that you could use vaseline on top of your cotton sheet mask to create a barrier to avoid the essence of the mask to evaporate or dry too quickly. It's about the same concept as the aluminium foil here and may be interesting for some of you ;) I have combo to normal skin and therefore I'm a bit intimidated by vaseline (esp on the face) so I prefer the foil option proposed by Estée Lauder.
Second, the ingredients are pretty impressive, too. This is what you could find in a well formulated serum. Most of the sheet masks I've tried before start with "water, glycerin, butylene glycol" and the actives ingredients are low in the ingredient list. I use them primarily to get a boost of moisture. Here you have more actives. So yes, the ingredients justify the price of the mask (4 masks for 120 CHF/ 4 masks for $79). That said, considering the price if you hesitate between these masks and a bottle of Advance Night Repair, I would suggest the bottle of ANR because you get more product. On the other hand, if you want to pamper yourself the masks are awesome!

THOUGHTS:
I really like the idea of a duo lip serum/lip balm. For the serum part, I haven't seen a huge difference but I guess the serum will do a more visible job for mature skin, if your lips are super dry and/or if you have wrinkles around your lips. For the balm part, I love that it's a jumbo size, it's very comfortable and super easy to apply. It's creamy but not too much that it will slide off and need to be constantly reapplied. It rather stays in place and doesn't feel greasy on the lips. To that sense, I really like the balm.
To me the main differences with a drug store balm are the following ones: it's more emollient than a traditional lip balm without being greasy; sometimes lip balm can feels too stiff, the Estée Lauder lip balm has almost a gel consistency and is therefore easy to spread on the lips. It is quickly absorbed and doesn't sit on your lips doing nothing. Since I got it last February, I always carry it in my purse, it can be a life saver somtimes - and it looks so classy and pretty ;)
