Hydra Life turns hydration
into a delightful experience

Dior's Hydra Life skincare range welcomes three new products: Jelly Sleeping Mask, Water BB and Beauty Awakening Rehydrating Mask in a seven single-dose set and a limited edition.
I have the Jelly Sleeping Mask and the Water BB and I'm happy to have a review of both of them ;)

HYDRA LIFE - JELLY SLEEPING MASK

WHAT IT IS:
As its name suggests, it's a jelly sleeping mask! If you're not familiar with sleeping masks, they are designed to be applied just before going to sleep after you've applied your serum and cream. They are not like traditional masks you have to rinse off and you don't have to worry about creating a mess on your pillowcase. Sleeping masks are actually more or less similar to a normal cream except they are usually lighter and suppose to create a seal on top of your skin to retain water and help absorption of the products you used before them.
Sleeping masks are really popular in Korea so if you're into K-beauty, I'm sure you already know lots of sleeping masks.

WHAT DIOR SAYS ABOUT IT:

"A small sensory revolution has occurred! While the textures of traditional night care are very rich and suffocate the skin during your sleep, Dior has drawn inspiration from Korean science to create the Hydra Life Jelly Sleeping Mask. The first of the next generation of night masks, its amazing, melt-away texture that is lightweight, ultra-fresh and non-sticky, transforms from jelly into water upon contact with the skin."
"Developed from Korean scientific research, Hydra Life Jelly Sleeping Mask is an ultra-light, fresh and non-sticky new-generation night mask. It moisturizes and softens the epidermis through a combination of mallow jelly and hyaluronic acid – a naturally occurring substance in the body involved in skin density – as well as active ingredients targeting the channels responsible for skin hydration, the aquaporins."
"After your first night's sleep, this ultra-fresh skincare offers an "8 hours of sleep" complexion and the 8 benefits of perfectly rested skin that is full of life: smoothed lines and skin texture, fully hydrated, supple and replumped skin, softness, radiance and a fresh complexion. Day after day, the quality of the skin is visibly improved. The face glows with beauty and freshness."

PACKAGING:
OK, can we take 5 min to admire the beauty of this packaging? It so luxurious and beautiful! Just looking at the packaging gives you the impression you've dived into the see lol
As usual, jars are not the best containers to protect the ingredients but in this particular case, there aren't many sensitive ingredients so this point is not such an issue.

HOW IT LOOKS/FEELS/SMELLS:

The mask has a jelly consistancy and feels really lightweight yet moisturizing on skin. Honestly my skin feels really hydrated, more supple and plumped as soon as I apply it. So the effect is almost immediate for me.

It takes a few minutes to get absorbed by the skin and feels sticky at first (for about 15-30 min depending on how you apply it, thin or thicker layer). I don't mind stickiness in my night care routine but if you do, this mask is not for you.

It is fragranced but it's not overwhelming and I actually like the scent a lot. It's fresh.

Oh don't try to use it as a morning cream, i.e. applied over makeup because it can ball up. On the contrary when applied at night after my usual skin care routine, I didn't notice any pilling.

INGREDIENT LIST:
Water, glycerin (humectant), cyclopentasiloxane (emollient, slip agent), propanediol (solvent, decrease viscosity), polyglycerin-3 (humectant), ammoniumm acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP copolymer (thickener, surfactant), dimethicone (emollient, slip agent), betaine (humectant, anti-irritant), phenoxyethanol (preservative), nylon-6/12 (absorbent, thickener, opacifying agent), dimethicone/vinyl dimethicone crosspolymmer (thickener, emulsifying agent), caprylyl glycol (humectant, emollient), centella asiatica leaf extract (antibacterial, anti-acne), polyacrylamide (film former, thickener/gelling agent), C13-14 isoparaffin (emollient, thickener/gelling agent), sodium hyaluronate (increase skin moisture, strenghten skin barrier), tocopheryl acetate (vitamin E/antioxidant), fragrance, menthoxypropanediol (fragrance), butylene glycol (slip agent, solvent), hydroxylated lecithin (emulsifier), malva sylvestris (mallow) extract (anti-irritant, antioxidant), biosaccharide gum-2 (skin conditioner), laureth-7 (surfactant), BHT (preservative), haberlea rhodopensis leaf extract (antioxidant), benzyl alcohol (preservative), sanguisorba officinalis root extract (antimicrobial, astringent, anti-inflammatory), limonene (fragrance), dehydroacetic acid (preservative), CI 42090 (Blue 1) (pigment), tocopherol (vitamin E/antioxidant).

The sleeping mask contains water, some humectants (attract and retain water - hydrating property), emollients and also a mix of silicone, solvent and some viscostiy-adjusters to fine tune the texture of the cream. There is also betaine that can act as an anti-irritant and then comes a preservative (phenoxyethanol). The maximal tolerated concentration of phenoxyethanol is 1%, which means that everything that comes after phenoxyethanol is <1%.

I added the ingredients in CosDNA if you're intersted, it's HERE. As you can see they are on the safe side.

PROs:

  • Contains some good emollients to make dry skin feel better.
  • Due to its lightweight texture, it is also suitable for oily and normal skin.
  • Like all moisturizers, it will make fine, dry lines look better.
  • Light and delicate texture.
  • Luxurious and beautiful packaging that makes you want to dig into it.

CONs:

  • Fragrance is a Con for sensitive skin.
  • Expensive.
  • Lack of antioxidant, anti-irritant ingredients (there are some but more would be better!).

THOUGHTS:
The texture of the mask is really what sets it apart. The jelly texture feels awesome on skin. My skin feels immediately more hydrated, supple and plumped when I use it. The next morning my skin feels really soft and healthy and that's something I, of course, really enjoy. The packaging looks also gorgeous! The biggest con for me is the lack of antioxidants, anti-irritants or other kind of "active" ingredients, especially considering the price of the mask (89.50 CHF/$69). Dior claims that there is some mallow extract and hyaluronic acid but they seem quite low in the ingredient list. Therefore you can expect a boost of moisture and hydration with it but you shouldn't expect more. That said, I really enjoy using it and usually moisture is what I expect from a sleeping mask. A more plumped and healthier-looking skin is already not too bad, isn't it?

HYDRA LIFE - WATER BB

"Dior as just launched the new generation of water-based beauty skin care combining the hydrating power of mallow with a natural-origin colourant that is gentle on the skin. Its melt-away texture adorns the complexion with a sublime natural veil. Its freshness provides an intense feeling of comfort. Gently hydrated, the skin is also protected from UV aggressions.""

The texture is ligthweight.  From the name "Water BB", I would have expected a more watery texture but it's actually a gel-cream hybride. It feels nicely hydrating on the skin. It doesn't seem to oxidise over time but I can't guarantee it at 100% because the color I got (020) is way too dark and warm for me (I'm a fair, cool-toned girl) so it's more difficult to test it. I've got to check if they have cooler-toned options ;) Have you tried this BB cream?
