Dermatory Azulene gauze pads and gel cream
11:35 AM
Hi hi, another K-beauty review on nailderella :D
I got this summer a few products from Dermatory and wanted to share my thoughts about them as I find them quite interesting!
I first saw the brand last spring and it immediately piqued my interest. I like the aesthetics of the brand, it has a vintage pharmacy look which appeals to me.
Dermatory is a Korean brand that belongs to Club Clio (Clio, Peripera, etc). They have 2 main lines: the Allantoin moisturizing line and the Azulene Cica line (soothing).
They mainly focus on soothing and hypoallergenic products and position themself as a brand for sensitive skin. They also advertise they products as being 20 free (talc, sulfate, surfactant, synthetic fragrance, parabens, ..., the whole list is here).
Azulene Hypoallergenic Cica Rescue Gauze Pad
WHAT ARE THEY?
These are soothing pads that you can use directly after cleasing as a soothing and hydrating toner. You can also use them as mask packs to target special area of your face that require extra soothing.
HOW THEY LOOK, FEEL, SMELL
In the box you get 60 pads soaked in 100mL of essence and a pair of tweezers. There is much, much essence in the tub! Each pad is really soaked in essence and feel "wet". The essence is water-like and is not sticky.
One side of the pad is soft while the other is more exfoliating.
There is no particular scent.
I really like using them as mini sheet masks. Typically I apply one pad per cheek after my serum step and they feel super hydrating and soothing. I actually really like the hydration boost they provide (and that's why I like using them as mask packs, too!).
INGREDIENTS
Water, Butylene Glycol, Methylpropanediol, Glycerin, Dipropylene Glycol, Guaiazulene, Honey Extract, Althaea Rosea Flower Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Extract, Chrysanthemum Parthenium (Feverfew) Extract, Centella Asiatica Leaf Extract, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Rosa Centifolia Flower Water, Hydroxyacetophenone, Hydroxyethyl Urea, Allantoin, Hydroxyehylcellulose, 1,2-Hexanediol, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Tromethamine, Sodium Hyaluronate, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Sodium Carboxymethyl Beta-Glucan, Polysorbate 80, Caffeine, Carbomer, Disodium EDTA.
They’re made of water, humectants (butylene glycol, glycerin), solvants (methylpropanediol, dipropylene glycol), and then come a bunch of plant extracts and soothing ingredients.
Guaiazulene is a dark blue crystalline compound and derivative of azulene, the blue colored constituent of chamomile oil. Guaiazulene and azulene, both present in these pads, have a strong antioxidant activity and are powerful anti-inflammatory ingredients. Nevertheless they are a few studies that report that guaiazulene and azulene can be phototoxic when exposed to sunlight. This is under specific conditions but I would rather recommend using products containing guaiazulene and azulene at night.
In addition to these 2 compounds, you can also find the plant extract containing guaiazulene and azulene, namely chamomile extract. It is well known for its anti-inflammatory and skin soothing properties. It can also stimulate and promote the skin’s healing process. This plant has been used for ages as a soothing plant and is still widely used. You can also find chamomile-based creams or lotions at your local pharmacy for this purpose. On another note, you also have to be careful with chamomile because while it's generally non-irritating and non-sensitizing, some adverse reactions have been reported by individuals who suffer from allergies to other plants in the daisy and sunflower family. So with chamomile, it’s always better to patch test the product before using it liberally. If there is no allergic reaction, then it’s a wonderful plant to soothe the skin.
Also present in these pads are honey (antibacterial, humectant, antioxidant), rose extract (soothing), feverfew extract (very soothing but also potentially sensitizing), centella asiatica (soothing, wound-healing), olive oil (moisturizing, antioxidant), hydroxyethyl urea (hydrating), allantoin (soothing, wound healing).
Overall these pads contain lots of soothing and hydrating ingredients. As with every product containing chamomile, a fantastic anti-inflammatory and soothing plant, it is better to patch test it as some people can react to chamomile.
I personally love using these pads as mask packs, i.e. apply one pad on each cheek. They bring so much hydration and are soothing! They're perfect when you need extra soothing, have redness or just to hydrate your skin. They're also practical when you're too lazy to do a regular sheet mask or if you want to drink or eat while sheet masking, as you can juste apply the pads to your cheeks and/or forehead and they will not come in your way :D

Azulene Hypoallergenic Cica Gel Cream
WHAT IS IT?
HOW IT LOOKS, FEELS, SMELLS
It has a typical gel cream texture, i.e. lighter than a regular cream but more moisturizing than a gel. It feels lightweight but still brings a good amount of moisture to the skin. It leaves the skin velvety and non greasy. I also don't find it sticky. It typically takes 1-2min to be fully absorbed.
There is no particular scent.
The texture is really beautiful and what is fun is its lilac color! The blue-lilac color is due to guaiazulene.

Overall I find it pretty nicely formulated. If you love products with lots botanical extracts, you will love it. As for the pads, some people can react to chamomile so patch test it before using it.
The gel cream texture is also really nice, it's the type of gel cream that I like: it's lightweight yet moisturizing. I think it bring a good balance of hydration and moisture and that's why I like it. I typically use it on my whole face as my moisturizer when I have more redness or when I feel I need extra soothing.
I also like the pretty lilac color of the gel cream, I find it pretty fancy :D

Your pictures are amazing <3 I had the opportunity to try The Dermatory on last summer like you and I'm definitely convinced about the soothing effect it provides, plus it smells... so good ! I really appreciate the active but gentle formulas.
ReplyDeleteCan I use both Allantoin and Azulene one after the other? Hehe thanks in advance. 🙂
