Too Cool For School Egg Line and Ingredient focus on Eggs!

Today I have a review of 3 products I've been using recently from the brand Too Cool For School (TCFS). TCFS is now available at Sephora in Manor in Switzerland :D
The 3 products I have are part of the famous Egg line!
All about.... Eggs in Skincare!
Eggs contain a chemical that is good
for the skin: cholesterol! Eggs are rich in cholesterol-type compounds which
can be extracted to yield rich emollient oils, perfect to moisture and repair your skin.
However do not apply directly raw
eggs on your face because, in addition to be super messy, eggs contains many
molecules, some of which can be allergenic. That’s why cosmetics manufacturers
have developed egg extracts that do not contain these allergenic molecules. For
example “egg oil” is concentrated in cholesterol and don’t contain the
allergenic proteins and is therefore pretty awesome for you skin (found this
info on beautybrains, I didn’t know about egg oil before :D ). That said if you
have an egg allergy, I wouldn’t recommend or risk using an egg-based skincare product.
Better be safe (egg yolk oil is safe but I’m not sure about egg yolk extract).
Egg oil, aka egg yolk oil is derived
from the yolk of chicken eggs consisting mainly of triglycerides and also lecithin,
cholesterol, biotin, xanthophylls lutein & zeaxanthin and immunoglobulins.
It is free of egg proteins and hence may be used safely by people who are
allergic to eggs, for topical applications such as hair and skin care. It’s
like an energized egg yolk :D
Egg oil acts an emollient,
moisturizer, anti-oxidant, penetration enhancer, occlusive skin conditioner and
anti-bacterial agent.
In TCFS products, they included Egg
Yolk Extract and not egg oil.
The yolk of one large egg (50 g
total, 17 g yolk) contains around 2.7 g protein, 210 mg cholesterol, 0.61
g carbohydrates, and 4.51 g total fat. All of the fat-soluble vitamins (A, D,
E, and K) are found in the egg yolk. Egg yolk is also very rich in fatty acids
and is also a source of lecithin and egg yolk oil as discussed above.
The yellow color is due to lutein
and zeaxanthin, which are yellow or orange carotenoids known as xanthophylls.
SUMMARY
Egg Yolk contains:
ð Fatty acids and cholesterol: Because the skin's natural lipid barrier comprises of cholesterol and lipids, these ingredients help maintain proper functioning in the epidermis by retaining moisture levels and regulating cell activity. Cholesterol works to strengthen the outer structure of the skin and protect it from dehydration (1). Lipids are essential components of skin and play a crucial role in the skin’s barrier function.
ð Lutein and zeaxanthin (responsible of the yellow color of the yolk) are powerful antioxidants.
Too Cool For School Egg Mellow Cream
CLAIMS
A highly enriched, 5-in-1 firming moisturizer infused with collagen for younger-looking skin and skin that is as smooth and elastic as an egg: toner + serum + cream + eye cream + mask.
HOW IT LOOKS / FEELS / SMELLS
This is a thick and emollient cream that is housed in a pump botte. The packaging is super convenient, much more than jar because i) it protects the ingredients from air and ii) you don't even need a spatula, perfect for the lazy me :D
The cream is yellow and has a nice scent -can't pinpoint what it is sorry, it's warm and sweet at the same time, maybe vanilla. The scent is quite present but not offensive. The texture is really particular and interesting because it makes threads when you pat the cream in your skin.
Although the cream is thick, I don't have the impression it clogs the pores, at least it doesn't for me (normal to slightly combination skin).

So the TCFS
Mellow cream contains solvents (water), emollients (isohexadecane, Triethylhexanoin),
humectants (glycerin, butylene glycol, soluble collagen), egg yolk extract,
fatty acids that can act as emollients and/or emulsifiers (Cetyl Alcohol, Stearic
Acid), and additional emulsifiers to mix the oil and water parts of the cream (Sorbitan
Stearate, Stearic Acid, Sorbitan Oleate). Stearic acid has been shown to
protect skin's surface against water loss and help shore up skin's protective
barrier. Isohexadecane (the 2nd ingredient) is a creamy ingredient
that creates a thick and rich texture that leaves a non-greasy, light and silky
feeling on the skin.
Then we
have niacinamide. We can also count on some beneficial plant extracts such as Dioscorea
Japonica Root Extract which is a yam with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory
properties; Piper Methysticum Extract that has skin soothing properties but can
also cause skin sensitivity; Arctium Lappa Root Extract, known as burdock, has
antioxidant properties; and Phellinus Linteus Extract (anti-inflammation, antioxidant, see here).
THOUGHTS / SUMMARY ON THE EGG MELLOW CREAM
Overall this makes a pretty emollient and moisturizing formula that contains non negligible amount of egg yolk extract (it’s the 4th ingredient) that is very interesting in terms of skincare because it contains fatty acids (great emollients) and cholesterol that works to strengthen the outer structure of the skin and protect it from dehydration. There are also a couple of plant extracts with antioxidant an anti-inflammatory properties as well as niacinamide. So yep, pretty good formula for dry skin! I have normal to slightly combination skin and it works perfectly fine for me. It would probably be too much for oily skin though. Moreover the texture is super fun!
In summary, I've been using it as the last step in my PM routine for about 2 months and I really like the texture and how it feels on the skin. It does feel really moisturizing but it doesn't feel too heavy. I'm someone who usually prefer gel textures but I enjoy using this cream because it doesn't clog my pores. It's actually one of the only heavier creams that has worked with my skin so far. So yes, I really like it, I think it's a pretty good moisturizer in terms of texture and ingrédients. I may repurchase it!

Too Cool For School Egg Mousse Pack
CLAIMS
A soft white mousse like whipping cream that makes your rough skin soft and smooth.
HOW IT LOOKS / FEELS / SMELLS
The product is delivered as a dense mousse. It has a scent of medium intensity, a bit fresh and soapy.
You have to apply it as a thick layer on your face and after a couple of minutes, massage the remaing mouse and wash everything off. Once you have it on, you can feel a slightly tickling sensation which is due to the air bubbles that pop.

THOUGHTS / SUMMARY ON THE EGG MOUSSE PACK
In terms of composition, you have betaine (anti-irritant), some humectants (for hydration), foam-boosters and egg yolk and egg white. Egg white doesn't really have skincare benefits. In fact, when the egg white dries, the proteins of the white form a film. That is that film that makes your skin feel tight, but this is a temporary tightening effect. When you wash off the egg white, the film is gone.
Concerning the results I got with this mask, after washing it off, my skin feels more supple, smooth, and refreshed. I don't find it really moisturizing or hydrating, only slightly. Other than that, I didn't notice others effects, such as brightening for example. The main effect for me is that it makes my skin look temporarily smoother (pore are less visible). I think it's a fun mask to try but it doesn't provide dramatic results. It's an OK wash-off mask but not an indispensable mask.

I completely forgot to take pictures of the mask itself, but at least I took notes of how it felt.
The essence is a sticky, clear essence that feels moisturizing and quite rich. I didn't detect any particular scent and the material of the mask is white and quite thick.

So overall, very happy with this Egg line of Too Cool For School! The product that impressed me the most is the Mellow Cream (awesome texture, nice ingredients and super moisturizing but not too heavy and doesn't clog my pores)! The sheet mask is also prettty good!
Next product I'd like to try is the Egg Mousse Body Oil! :D

The sheet masks is definitely a great idea! I've never tried to use raw eggs but I'm kind of curious lol that said, these products are so less messy that I'll stick with them :D
