Reficis Cleanser - Serum - Body Cream

8:44 PM

Hello!

Here I am with a new review of 3 products from the young Swiss brand, Reficis.

Reficis is made at La Chaux-de-Fonds and is a vegan cosmetic brand. The brand wants to bring environmentally friendly products that are manufactured locally.

In a previous post, I presented 2 other products that are part of the Efferv'essence line of the brand HERE (a cleanser and an anti-imperfection serum). Reficis has extented their products to a new line called "Soie-Douce" and the 3 products I'm reviewing today are part of this new line.

Soie-Douce is a line of vegan products not tested on animals.
With this new line, Reficis wants to bet on hydration and nutrition with products rich in actives (70-98%).

The main ingredient from this line is the organic Swiss mallow that is produced locally.
Reficis has developed concentrated, multi-active formulas, without or with low doses of essential oils. The ingredients in the formulas are fair trade, organic and locally produced.

All the products from this line are produced without sulfates, parabens, silicones, phenoxyethanol and artifical dyes.

BODY CREAM

WHAT IT IS/CLAIMS:
This cream moisturizes, soothes, nourishes and regenerates the skin. It's suitable for all skin types.

KEY INGREDIENTS:

  • Organic mallow (malva Sylvestris extract):  it may have some anti-inflammatory and soothing properties for the skin, as well as some potential antioxidant benefits.
  • Organic sunflower (helianthus annuus seed oil):  it is an excellent emollient. Sunflower seed oil has the ability to help repair skin’s barrier and reduce inflammation. It’s a rich source of fatty acids skin can use and is excellent for dry skin.
  • Organic shea (vitellaria paradoxa sb. nilotica): it is an excellent emollient.
  • Organic coconut oil (cocos nucifera oil): it is a powerful moisturizer.
  • Organic agan oil (argania spinosa seed oil): it is a good emollient. It contains several beneficial lipids and fatty acids. It is also a good source of vitamin E (tocopherol) and a source of antioxidants.
  • Organic lavender hydrolat (lavandula angustifolia water): it may have some antibacterial properties but can be irritant.
  • Organic calendula (calendula officinalis flower extract): it may have antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties.

INGREDIENTS:
water, malva sylvestris extract, heliantus annuus seed oil, vegetable glycerin (humectant), vitellaria paradoxa sb. nilotica, cocos nucifera oil, argania spinosa seed oil, lavandula angustifolia water, glycerin stereate (emulsifier/emollient), cetyl alcohol (emulsifier/emollient), sodium stearoyl lactylate (emulsifier), calendula officinalis flower extract, caprylic/capric triglycerides (emollient/skin-repairing ingredient), ricinus communis seed oil (emollient), DL panthenol (improve skin's barrier function), parfum, potassium sorbate, benyl alcohol, tocopherols, dehydroacetic acid, citric acid.

As you can see this body cream is packed with emollient, anti-inflammatory and soothing ingredients! All the ingredients of this cream are pretty awesome except for the lavender. But overall I think it is very well formulated.

HOW IT LOOKS/FEELS/SMELLS:
It's a medium viscosity cream that spreads easily on the skin and is not sticky. It is quicky absorbed. There is a distinct scent of a mixture of natural coconut and argan oil (at least to my nose :p ). The coconut smell reminds me of the scent of the real coconut shell. The overall feel when you apply it is really heartwarming and I actually love using this cream!

So you understand that I really like this body cream. The ingredients are great (emollient, soothing, anti-inflammatory) , the scent is natural and very nice and the texture of the cream is a pleasure. Note that the tube contains 100mL of product, which is not so much for a body cream.

CLEANSING GEL

WHAT IT IS/CLAIMS:
This gel gently cleans the skin, soothes and regenerates it. It is convenient for dehydrated, damaged, dry and/or irritated skin.

KEY INGREDIENTS:
  • Organic mallow (malva Sylvestris extract):  it may have some anti-inflammatory and soothing properties for the skin, as well as some potential antioxidant benefits.
  • Organic lavender hydrolat (lavandula angustifolia water): it may have some antibacterial properties but can be irritant.
  • Organic elderberry (sambucus nigra flower extract): it has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
  • Organic hawthorn (crataegus laevigata extract): it has antioxidant properties.
  • Organic inulin: it is a humectant and skin-conditioning agent (makes skin soft and smooth).
  • Panthenol: it is a humectant because of its ability to attract and hold moisture. It improves skin’s barrier function and maintains the proliferation of fibroblasts, the cells that create collagen.
  • niacinamide: anti-aging superstar. It can improve skin’s elasticity, enhance its barrier function, help erase discolorations, and revive skin’s healthy tone and texture.
source: Paula's choice's dictionary and/or litterature found using google scholar.

INGREDIENTS:
water, malva sylvestris extract, lavandula angustifolia extract, coco-glucoside (surfactant), vegetable glycerin (humectant), sambucus nigra flower extract, crataegus laevigata extract, decyl glucoside (surfactant), niacinamide, parfum, inulin, xanthan gum, DL panthenol, potassium sorbate, benzyl alcohol, dehydroacetic acid, citric acid.

The 2 surfactants (cleansing agents) of this gel cleanser are: coco-glucoside and decyl glucoside.
They are both often used in baby shampoos or cleansers because they are very gentle, non irritant and perfectly suited for people with sensitive skin. They are plant-derived and biodegradable,

HOW IT LOOKS/FEELS/SMELLS:
It's a yellowish gel. It emulsifies and creates a lightweight foam as you lather.
It effectively removes dirt, oil, impurities, and all traces of makeup and even eye makeup without stinging. It rinses off completely clean and leaves the skin feeling refreshed without feeling tight. It has a slight scent but not very present.

So this cleansing gel is very gentle yet effective at removing sunscreen and makeup. It doesn't dry the skin out or makes it feel tight. Moreover I quickly measured its pH (when emulsified with water) and it is around 5.5±1.0 (see picture below).

In summary, what I like about this cleansing gel:
  • it's gentle (2 mild surfactants)
  • it's not drying or stripping
  • it can remove makeup and sunscreen
  • ideal pH (5.5±1.0) that respects the skin’s acid mantle.

MOISTURIZING SERUM

WHAT IT IS/CLAIMS:
This serum hydrates, softens, and regenerates dehydrated, damaged and/or irritated skin.

KEY INGREDIENTS:
  • Organic mallow (malva Sylvestris extract):  it may have some anti-inflammatory and soothing properties for the skin, as well as some potential antioxidant (reduce oxidatif stress) benefits.
  • Organic hawthorn (cataegus laevigata extract): it has antioxidant properties.
  • Organic grapeseed oil (vitis vinifera seed oil): it has potent antioxidant properties and is emolient.
  • Organic castor oil plant (ricinus communis seed oil): it is emollient.
  • Orgnaic burdock (arctium lappa extract): it is antioxidant and anti-irritant.
  • Hyaluronic acid:  it can boost skin’s moisture content, reduce inflammation, and help prevent moisture loss.

source: Paula's choice's dictionary and/or litterature found using google scholar.

INGREDIENTS:
malva sylvestris extract, water, vegetable glycerin (humectant), coco-caprylate (emollient), crataegus laevigata extract, caprylic/capric triglycerides (emollient/skin-repairing ingredient), cetearyl alcohol (emollient/emulsifier), cetearyl glucoside (thickener/emulsifier), vitis vinifera seed oil, ricinus communis seed oil, sodium stearoyl lactylate (emulsifier), arctium lappa extract, hydrolyzed oat protein (skin conditionning/anti-irritant), parfum, glycoproteins, pathenol, styrax tonkinensis, sodium hyaluronate, tocopherols, postassium sorbate, citric acid, benzyl alcohol, dehydroacetic acid, benzyl benzoate.

There are a lot of emollient and antioxidant ingredients in this serum.

HOW IT LOOKS/FEELS/SMELLS:
It's a thin serum that feels a little bit oily. When I say "oily" I don't mean it in a bad and heavy way, it feels moisturizing but still lightweight. It actually feels like if you had mixed your regular serum with a drop of facial oil. I can really feel the emollient properties of the serum.
It takes 1 or 2 minutes to get absorbed by the skin but doesn't feel sticky.

This serum is very (!) moisturizing, much more than I expected and emollient. It has a very interesting formula, infused with nourrishing oils. It's perfect if you have dry skin but works also well for normal to combo skin.

The products are on the expensive side (29.90CHF the body cream, 39.90CHF the cleansing gel and 99.90CHF the serum) but you have to keep in mind that they are vegan, that they use ingredients produced locally, that almost all the ingredients of each product are "active" ingredients, which is, belive me, quite impressive in cosmetics. This balances pretty well the price of the products in my opinion.
Overall, I like the cleanser because it's super gentle yet effective, the boday cream is really heartwarming and that's why I like using it and finally the serum is super moisturizing thanks to the oil present in it.
