Honey + Ginseng in a super luxurious formula from one of the most coveted brand from Korea, yes that's the topic of today's review, namely The History of Who - Honey Ginseng Sleeping Mask!
The History of Who is a brand owned by LG and is a super luxurious brand, alla Sulwhasoo. The concept of both brands is a bit similar but the History of Who focuses even more on ingredients coming from the Korean traditional medicine while Sulwhasoo has a stronger emphasis on technology. The History of Who places themselves as the skincare brand of ancient queens and kings. The pricepoint is quite high but you can still find a few products that are affordable like this honey gingseng sleeping mask (under 40 USD on jolse).
CLAIMS
A rich and intensive moisturizing sleeping mask containing honey and ginseng. It comes with a brush.
"The ginseng and honey ingredients in this nutrient-intensive mask fill the dry and undernourished skin with the necessary sap and nutrients and make the skin healthy and moist."
HOW IT LOOKS, FEELS, SMELLS
The sleeping mask comes in a 80mL plastic tube with a beautiful plastic cap.
The product is a thick brown to golden brown gel cream. It spreads easily and doesn't dry to a sticky finish. Although it has a gel cream texture, it's not something light, it feels very moisturizing when you spread it. For dry skin, this will be a dreamy texture.
The scent is quite flowery (I think this is a common feature of The History of Who products). It's a medium to slightly strong scent but not overpowering to the point it makes you caugh (you see what I mean). It's a luxury scent.
Directions: At the last step of the daily skincare routine in the evening, take an appropriate amount and spread lightly over the entire face. Massage gently for absorbing and get the to sleep. You can apply it with the brush it comes with but I prefer using my hands, it's more convenient.

NB: In the packaging there is a pamphlet with the ingredients, but it's only in Korean. I translated it but with some of the extracts from the korean traditional medicine, I'm not 100% sure if my translation is correct. I hope it is but I can't guarantee it 100%.
I won't do a real and detailed ingredient analysis as I normally do because there are a lot of ingredients coming from the korean traditional medicine and I'm not an expert in this domaine so I don't want to spread incorrect information and don't want to spend days searching for more info (at least the moment).
What I can see from the "chemical" part of the ingredients is that the formula is indeed rich and moisturizing with added soothing benefits. You've got lots of very interesting ingredients like honey (antibacterial, hydrating), ginseng (antioxidant, anti-inflam., wound healing), ferments, panthenol (anti-irritant/soothing, moisturizer, help skin heal faster), licorice (brightening), etc.
It also contains ceramide and cholesterol to help strenghten the skin barrier.
THOUGHTS
This is a luxurious nourishing sleeping mask that is perfect for dry skin. If you have oily skin, this would probably be too rich, but normal to combo skin could still benefit from it as the gelified texture makes it feels lighter on the skin. If you are into products containing lots of botanical extracts, this sleeping mask ticks all the boxes. However if what you love in hanbang (products inspired by the korean traditional medicine) is the earthy and herbal scent, this is not what you will get it as the scent is definitely more flowery (no ginseng scent!). That said, overall in terms of ingredients I find it pretty nice.
In terms of efficiency, it does the job and helps keep hydration locked in during the night while also providing moisture and nourishing the skin. I think it provides more moisture than most sleeping masks as the texture is richer. If you suffer from dry patches or have dry skin, I guess you will really like it. On a side note, while reviewing it, I applied it on my hands to be able to describe the texture and scent better and OMG I have to admit that I would be a beautiful hand cream, totally non sticky, super fast absorbing and it really smoothes the skin. It feels actually 100x better as all the hand creams I've tested before...might have to take it with me and use it troughout the day on my hands...
Overall this is a nice sleeping mask that I love using but I wouldn't say this is my all time favorite sleeping mask. It's good but no overly special.
If you want to try the brand "The History of Who", I think this is a nice introduction product as it doesn't cost an arm and a leg and will let you know if you like the philosophy of the brand.
